No Matter Where You are on Life’s Journey, You are welcome here!

About Our Church

The Second Congregational Church is part of the United Church of Christ (UCC) - that’s our denomination. Because we are in Vermont, we are part of the Vermont Conference of the UCC (clever, huh?)

We are fun.  We really are! We are old and young, quiet and loud, long time Christians and ‘newbies’...people very sure of their faith and folks who wonder about it all each and every day!  Did we mention we are fun? We are. And we would LOVE to meet you!

We Would Like You to Know

THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. The cups contain unfermented grape juice. All are welcome at Christ's table.

CHILDREN ARE SO IMPORTANT! We welcome children of all ages to our worship experience. Children ages kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to our multi-age Sunday School downstairs in the Friendship Room following the Children's Story (about 15 minutes into the church service). Sunday School meets during worship.

Infants and toddlers are also invited downstairs to the nursery and we have paid childcare folks who are a consistent presence from week to week for the youngest among us! We use the "One Room Sunday School' curriculum by Abingdon Press. Sunday School and Child Care are year round.

Opportunities to Participate

YOU CAN JOIN THE CHOIR! Yes, you really can! Solo ability not needed. Ability to read music not needed. The choir warms up each Sunday morning at 8:30 AM and rehearses Sunday mornings (after church) from 10:50 AM - 12:00 Noon. All ages are welcome to sing!

WE HAVE WEEKLY CONGREGATIONAL PARTICIPATION IN WORSHIP: weekly lay scripture readers and folks in the congregation occasionally offer the Children’s Story or ‘Moment of Mission’.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR MISSION AND OUTREACH ABOUND. As a United Church of Christ congregation, we support outreach and mission efforts at the local, state, and national levels. For more information, see our Mission & Outreach page.

SHORT-TERM BIBLE STUDIES AND FAITH ENRICHMENT CLASSES are offered at various times during the year. Classes center around specific books of the Bible and are led by lay volunteers from the congregation. Video series are also offered on occasion

Our Community

OUR POLITY IS CONGREGATIONAL. (What?) This means that we are NOT ‘top down.’  We are organized by Committees which is (mostly) GREAT! Everyone has a voice. We discuss. We disagree (not much and always respectfully). We vote. We have meetings which is (again, mostly) GREAT! Folks can be as involved - or not - as they wish.

OUR CHURCH IS UTILIZED BY THE COMMUNITY: Our downstairs Friendship Room is a great space for meetings and events. Local groups and organizations make use of this space: Senior Lunches (May-October), Boy Scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous, Rotary International, a Bridge group and a ‘Bone builders’ type Exercise group. You can find out more information about all that is going on in our newsletter, THE OUTREACH, published four-six times each year (available via email).
